MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some Middle Georgia Democrats and lawmakers are in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention this week. With more than 70 days left until Election Day in November, people from Middle Georgia who are there say there is a lot of energy in Chicago.

“Everything we’ve heard has been amazing, and I’m really excited, and I know that Vice President Harris just realized her set of policies, and I’d love to hear more about those,” Kristen Kiefer, with the Houston County Democratic Committee, said.

Kiefer adds she’s learning a lot at the DNC.

“There’s been so many offerings throughout the day. Different kinds of meetings, caucus meetings, and we’ve got a lot of great partners who are here teaching us to share our story with voters how to have difficult conversations about topics with people who believe in different things,” she said.

Former educator and Macon City Councilor Dr. Henry Ficklin and Kiefer say they’re ready to encourage people to vote when they get back.

“We need to win this election,” Ficklin said. “There’s no ifs, ands buts about it. We need every person whether they’re Democrat or leaning Republican or independent, we need everyone to vote. We cannot go back to what we have seen.”
“I think that most Americans really care about the same things like putting food on their tables and being able to take care of their families and just live comfortably,” Kiefer said. “Those are things the Harris/Walz ticket brings us.”
Ficklin and Kiefer say they’re ready to hear Vice President Harris present her policies Thursday night.
