Former Mayor of Montezuma Preston Williams Jr Is Montezuma’s Local Notable

One local notable has madeit his mission to uplift Montezuma.

“It is family oriented, small town, and I know most people here and I know most people in the county. I love it. In fact I bought my cemetery lot and I plan to stay here” , said former Mayor of Montezuma Preston Williams Jr.

Preston Williams who served as the mayor of Montezuma from 1992 to 2000 is well know in the community. Mr Williams is also known for his passion to make Montezuma the best town it can be.

“He is very active in what he does. He gives a 100 percent of his time. When he says he will be involved with something, he is involved with it “, said Ben Haugabook. In 1994, Williams was involved with getting Montezuma back on its feet after the flood.

” I think he was actually in Florida when it happened, he had to wind his way to get back in town because the bridges were closed.  He got back up here, I think they had a city managers at the time and he immediately went to work, ” said Haugabook.

Williams leadershiop during the disaster helped the town become known as the town that refused to drown. 

” I really enjoy the people, I am a member of the Kiwanis club an involved in the community in that way. I thoroughly enjoy that. I like being apart of it and like being involved, ” said Williams. 

” I’ve never heard anybody say anything bad about Preston , he is a giver,he loves his community, he loves his family, loves his church, he is just a good person. he really is, said Dennis Carey.

” I would say that this town would not be where it is without him, ” Said Haugabook.

Mr. Williams spends his free time playing golf and going to church functions.
