Local church hosts school supply and lunch giveaway for teachers
"This is a tough time in our world and our teachers are one of the most important commodities," said Karen Brooks the Program Coordinator at New Piney Grove.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- New Piney Grove Baptist Church located at 258 Straight Street hosted a drive-thru thank you, teachers giveaway of school supplies and lunch from Chick-fil-A to give back to local teachers. The giveaway was held Wednesday in the church’s parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The church invited educators from schools surrounding their Unionville Church to a drive-thru or dine-in lunch from Chick-fil-A and a teacher goody bag giveaway.
They also offered a moment of prayer. New Piney Grove says this is the first time they are doing an event like this and hope to be a part of more community events to help children and teachers.
“He gave me the vision, of importance of teachers and how we need to encourage. This is a tough time in our world and our teachers are one of the most important commodities. There are very few and so many of them struggle to have supplies that they need in order to teach and educate our children,” said Karen Brooks the Program Coordinator at New Piney Grove.
Brooks said she is retired teacher herself who taught for 36 years.
“So what we want to do here at New Piney Grove, is we want them to know that we love them in the name of Jesus. We care about them and we want them to continue to fight the fight, not to give up, because we know that the children are our future,” Brooks said.
“It starts at home,” said Ronald Morgan the Evangelist Lead at New Piney Grove.
“Schools do their share and churches do their share. So everybody needs to be on board to make this village work and make this thing work,” Morgan said.
We also spoke with Pastor Antonie Scruggs who says he also understands the struggles of teachers.
“I’ve taught for a few years, in little Rock, Arkansas. And so I know the great need. And so we have an opportunity to give back to the community and be a blessing to the teachers as well,” said Pastor Scruggs.
He also says he his grateful for all the help they receive to make this event possible and grateful to all the teachers.
