Macon County Hero Helps During Worst of Times
For more than 50 years, a funeral home in Macon County has been servicing families during some of their worst times.
Meadows’ Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel remembers and serves beyond the sunset of life. The organization’s president Gretha Perry is always there to lend a helping hand.
“My dad was always some type of entrepreneur. He was always doing something and Oglethorpe really didn’t have a funeral home and I guess it dawned on him that he would like to open a business here in Oglethorpe and it ended up being the funeral home.”
Born and raised in Macon County, Gretha is the only girl out of 8 siblings. When her father passed away, she took over the family business.
“We’ve had funerals that we’d probably never get paid for because of the family’s situation and we’ve done a lot of things to help the community.”
Gretha believes in the word of God. She looks forward to a good day, even after death. She looks to the people in her community as hometown heroes and says Macon County is home.
