Byron to build 8,000-square-foot skate park with $250,000 grant
National Park Service funds new skate park at former Byron Elementary School site

BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An 8,000-square-foot skate park is coming to the city of Byron.
A $250,000 grant from the National Park Service will go toward construction of the skate park at the site of the old Byron Elementary School. The grant was made possible through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State and Local Assistance Program.
Selina Hall, the Tourism Specialist for the Byron Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau, says this will help the city achieve its goal of keeping local kids active.
“I think our main goal is just bringing more of the recreation and activities to our municipal complex,” Hall said. “Giving kids things to do to get out of the house, and just activities to keep them engaged in outside stuff. And doing things that keep the community together.”
Hall added there is no timeline for the skate park, but construction will begin once the old school building is demolished.
