‘Summer Safety Plan’ underway in Warner Robins to combat crime

With the summer in full swing, officials in Warner Robins are implementing strategic measures to keep the crime rate down.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – With the summer in full swing, officials in Warner Robins are implementing strategic measures to keep the crime rate down.

Wayne Fisher, the Chief of Police with the Warner Robins Police Department, says they have a “stable” crime rate right now. However, he acknowledged that property crime, auto break-ins and home burglaries typically increase during the summer months.

“You’ll see an increase in the summertime because you have more children that are out and about again unsupervised,” he said.

To address this, the police department is utilizing crime data analysis to identify hot spots and deploy increased patrols in residential areas.

“We are utilizing crime data analysis to identify hot spots,” he said. “And the officers are patrolling residential areas when they’re not on a call. They’re in the residential areas doing patrol within the residential areas.”

He says community involvement is crucial to maintain public safety.

“Moms need to be moms,” he said. “Dads need to be dads. Aunts need to be aunts. Uncles need to be uncles. Concerned neighbors need to be concerned neighbors. We need to be engaged with our youth, provide proper mentorship and role modeling, and be engaged.”

Warner Robins recently updated its curfew, with children under 17 years old required to be inside their homes from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Fisher says there has been a 0.1 percent reduction in overall crime in the first six months of this year compared to the first six months of last year.
