Downtown Macon florist prepares for Mother’s Day

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — As many small businesses struggle from the COVID-19 pandemic, flower shops are no exception. But with Mother’s Day around the corner, we wanted to find out how local florists are preparing.

Joyce Freeman, the manager of Lawrence Mayer Florist, says two weeks ago she began training her new staff to prepare for the holiday. She says the most challenging part has been getting the flowers.

“It’s hard because right now you can’t get flowers from usual sources,” Freeman said.

However, Freeman says they are stocked and ready.

In the last several weeks, the florist shop experienced a slight loss due to wedding and event cancellations.

Freeman says that holidays increase the revenues due to deliveries.

“It has been a very busy Mother’s Day week, so far. The numbers are up,” added the manager.

Freeman says that around Easter, revenues still increased but those orders were mostly for funerals.

Lawrence Mayer Florist is available for deliveries or curbside pickup.
