MONICA- Good afternoon. Today we have Kim Jenkins, who is running for Macon-Bibb County Commission District eight, joining us. Thank you for being here.

KIM- Hi, Monica.

MONICA- I’m excited to have you. I know the runoff we’re getting into an election day is on Tuesday, and so I have a few questions for you. First off, what do you think is the biggest issue or challenge that needs to be addressed, and how do you plan on solving that if you’re elected?

KIM- In my district, I believe one of the biggest challenge in my area in which I am it is a very private area and we need to, clean that area up. We need to also bring economic development back in the area where we can get some nice businesses in the area. Well, you know, we have Macy’s, we have JCPenney’s, we have other flourishing businesses that were there at the mall and just throughout the area. They are no longer there. We still have a shopping store, Burlington. But overall they all move to the north side. And that creates an issue for the shoppers that live in the area, whether they’re young or our beautiful seniors, they have to travel too far just to enjoy a shopping day. And I think we need to do, improve that so we can offer jobs for those who live there. They may have a job, but look how far they have to travel. Everyone wants to work and live and enjoy the community where they are. Everybody’s not up to traveling or commuting for a long distance of time, and I think it would improve our community if we able to get more businesses there, get the area cleaned up. It will reduce crime as we do so.

MONICA- How has your background and your experience prepared you for this role?

KIM- Well, thank you for asking a question. I do appreciate it. I believe that my background and my experience play a big role, a big part in what we’re doing right now. So in the actions that I’m doing, I consider myself a servant. I am a servant. I’m a servant. And in the ministry that I serve. I’m a servant to my community most of all because my ministry is the community. And so in serving the community, I’m able to give back what is needed, where in all aspects, all area. Now, when you talk about experience, my experience is coming from just being a neighbor. Being a resident of this city, seeing what’s been a part of living for the many years that I’ve lived in spirit is life itself. So I understand the ins and outs. I understand poverty, I understand that being middle class, I understand these things. I understand what it takes to grow and develop. With my experience, I believe that I can bring unity in our community. I can also bring, a flourish, mindset that will allow people to help them change their mindset, how they see themselves as well as our community.

MONICA- Alright. Now, what would progress look like to you if you are elected?

KIM- Oh, wonderful. Progress to me would look look like in our community where we’re able to come together a saying table where we can bring our ideas together to work together to improve our community. Nothing happens overnight, though. But if I’m elected, which I hope that I am, I’m able to pull the people together and pull in the people together is the difference between separating them and dividing them. We cannot change anything if we don’t work together and bring some unification to our community, whether it be blighted homes, trash in our neighborhoods, danger, security issues, food issues, whatever it may be, we can do a lot when we come together and work together.

MONICA- Alright. Well, thank you, Miss Kim. And thank you for being here today.

KIM- Thank you
