Macon City Council Tours Beall’s Hill Project

Restoring houses in downtown Macon could create widespread benefits for the city, that’s according to Historic Macon, MercerUniversity, and the College Hill Alliance.

The groups showed off one of their newest houses on Ross Street today, to Macon City Council’s Public Works Committee, with hopes the city will do their part in the Beall’s Hill project.

“It allows us to move on to that next project, to take that next step. We know that this neighborhood is one of our core neighborhoods one of our historic neighborhoods and our city’s center. And we only are better if we improve this neighborhood,” said Lauren Benedict of Macon City Council.

If City Council decides to contribute their dues to the Beall’s Hill Project, they would have a say in future project decisions.

Historic Macon‘s Executive Director, Josh Rogers, says the program boosts property tax values, creates jobs, and beautifies the city.
