Atlanta, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – Former Houston County baseball star and current Georgia Tech Freshman outfielder Drew Burress earned several awards for his collegiate play this past season.

Coming out of high school, Burress was the number one rated outfielder and number two overall prospect in the state according to ‘Perfect Game’. Now the ACC Freshman of the Year learned yesterday that Perfect Game gave him the award for National Freshman of the Year. The former HoCo Bear also grabbed Freshman Hitter of the Year as well, while becoming the lone freshman to be NCBWA First Team All-American. Burress also earned a spot on the Freshman All-American team and the ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Regional team as well.

Burress led the team in batting average with a .381, 25 home runs, 67 RBI’s and an OPS above 1.300, which are all Freshman records. He is also the 12th Yellow Jacket ever to earn the Triple Crown award.
