Tommy’s Bakery to donate portion of proceeds to Salvation Army for Donut Day
Since 1938, the Salvation Army has celebrated Donut Day every first Friday in June.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Tommy’s Bakery donated 10% of today’s proceeds to the Salvation Army of Greater Macon for Donut Day.
National Donut Day was originally celebrated as a tribute to the “donut lassies” that supported our troops on the front lines during World War 1. The “donut lassies” made donuts for the soldiers to provide them a treat to comfort them.
Since 1938, the Salvation Army has celebrated Donut Day every first Friday in June.
“We fully rely on the community for all of our, money that we use for our services,” says Sergeant Austin Sturdivant. “It’s very important for us to be able to connect with the community, to be able to raise the funds that it takes to help those in need.”
