UPDATE: Bibb County inmate dies after being tased following medical emergency

The incident is currently under investigation pending autopsy.

UPDATE (5/29/24): The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says Stephen Fossett was tased after having a medical emergency.

Public Information Officer Lt. Linda Howard issued the following statement:

“ During watch in the Law Enforcement Center, deputies discovered an inmate behaving strangely,  having a medical emergency. While being screened for medical conditions, the inmate became combative with assisting medical staff and deputies who were attempting to treat him. A taser was deployed in an attempt to control the inmate. The taser had no effect on the inmate. The inmate was restrained then transported to a medical facility by ambulance. It was later reported to deputies the inmate had passed. The incident is currently under investigation pending autopsy.”


ORIGINAL STORY (5/28/24): 

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate died over the weekend.

Sergeant Christopher Williams says deputies realized the inmate was having a medical emergency in the Law Enforcement Center and the inmate was transported to a medical facility.

The inmate has been identified as Stephen Fossett.

The Sheriff’s Office says there are no signs of foul play, but the incident is under investigation.
