Monroe County honors fallen veterans with special Memorial Day Observance event

Speakers, one-by-one stood front of the crowd to call out names of fallen service members.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –Forsyth like many cities across the country held a Memorial Day Event to remember the veterans who died in war for our country.  Monday’s event, “Monroe County Memorial Day Observance, Honor and Remember” was held this morning on the lawn outside of the Monroe County Probate Court.

The ceremony, started with a Presentation of Colors.

Speakers, one-by-one stood in front of the crowd to call out names of fallen service members.

They began this year’s roll call with the three soldiers killed in drone attack in Jordan earlier this year on January 28th.

Sergeant William Rivers, Specialist Kennedy Sanders and Specialist Breonna Moffett.

These three were all assigned to the 718th engineer company, a US Army Reserve Unit based out of Fort Moore, Georgia.

Speakers, also called out the names of veterans who died in past wars.

The ceremony ended with laying of wreaths at a monument in front of the courthouse and pictures to remember the fallen and today’s event.
