Macon County mourns the loss of its Sheriff

Condolences are pouring in from around Middle Georgia, after Macon County Sheriff Leonard Johnson died on Saturday.

MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Condolences are pouring in from around Middle Georgia, after Macon County Sheriff Leonard Johnson died on Saturday.

The sheriff’s office has not appointed an interim sheriff.

The Montezuma Police Department expressed its sympathy online, saying in part quote “may we all find solace in carrying forward his legacy, embodying the values and lessons he imparted to us all.”

Johnson’s funeral is set for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church in Montezuma. A wake will be held Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Meadows Funeral home in Oglethorpe.
