MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Community and spiritual leaders gathered at Rosa Parks Square Thursday to observe the 73rd National Day of Prayer.

Mayor Lester Miller issued a proclamation for the day, highlighting the enduring importance of prayer, which traces back to the era of the first U.S. President.

Rev. Roosevelt Glover, pastor of The Bridge Church in Macon, delivered the main message, drawing from the biblical scripture 2 Samuel 22: 29-31 and speaking about the narrative of David to illustrate divine design and purpose in everyone’s life.

Margaret McCook, the chairperson of National Day of Prayer for Macon, said about ten years ago, the National Day of Prayer Task Force asked them to focus on the Seven Centers of Influence by Seven Citizens in every public event.

“It’s government, education, media, business, church, family and military,” she said.

The National Day of Prayer was established unanimously by Congress in 1988 and is celebrated on the first Thursday of May each year.
