MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – At Jefferson Long Park 35 Publix Associates from all over the state and the President of Publix himself volunteered to plant tress, landscape, power wash, clean, remove invasive plants, trim plants, mulch and clear debris to revitalize the park.
This was apart of their bi-annual Publix Serves Week where they volunteer with state parks and non-profit organizations focused on environmental sustainability.
We spoke with John Goff, President of Publix Super Markets and Asha Ellen, Executive Director of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful about what the revitalization means for the community.
“It’s a part of giving back to the communities we serve. We have two Publix that’s local here to Macon and these are most of the management and associates from the local Publix. I’m really just trying to invest in the community that they live and work in,” said Goff
“Just want, to show the importance when our private sector comes together with our public and non-profit sectors to beautify and enhance our environment. That’s the collaborative partnerships that we need to be able to sustain our Earth,” Ellen said.
Ellen also says they are always in the business of beautifying Macon and stay tuned for more tree planting projects.
