MGA hosts Clothesline Project event to raise awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault
Colors on the shirts represent different types of abuse

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A showcase of T-shirts was on display Tuesday outside the Student Life Center at Middle Georgia State University in Macon.
The shirts, created at a previous event by students and community members, were on display as part of the Clothesline Project, serving as a reminder of the impact of domestic violence and sexual assault on our community, as well as the importance of standing together in support of survivors.
According to Associate Professor of Sociology Criminal Justice at Middle Georgia State University, Dr. Elaina Behounek, the colors on the shirts represent different types of abuse. We spoke with her about the student-led event.
“Today we’re hosting a Clothesline Project, which is an event that was started in Massachusetts to help represent the victims of domestic violence for military households, and it’s spread all over the United States,” Behounek said. “Lots of different campuses and other organizations host the event throughout the U.S. to raise awareness about different types of domestic violence and sexual assault that occur.”
Behounek wants people to know they are not alone, and there are various resources available for victims and survivors.
Clothesline Project events held at Middle Georgia State University are organized by the Department of Psychology and Criminal Justice in partnership with the Crisis Line and Safe House of Central Georgia.
