Robins Air Force Base continues to bolster Georgia economy, hiring for hundreds of positions

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Robins Air Force Base leaders announced during the State of the Base event on Thursday that the base contributed nearly $4 billion to Georgia’s economy last year.
Base officials also announced they are looking to hire for hundreds of positions. Commander Christopher Cox, in charge of the Spectrum Warfare Group, says they are looking to hire 300 civilian or military personnel, with the possibility of that number increasing.
He says they are looking to hire programmers, intelligence experts and current and former aircraft operators, as well as support personnel required in order to handle an organization of 300 plus individuals.
Warner Robins Mayor LaRonda Patrick spoke about the importance of listening to the needs of service members and their families. She mentioned that one area lacking was workforce housing for single airmen who come to the area and need to be able to afford a place to stay.
The mayor is already heading to the drawing board to find a solution to this issue.
“We can do incentive programs,” she said. “We can ask new developers when they come in if they can set aside a certain amount for military service members at a workforce rate and instead of a market rate, so there’s different things we can try and just see what sticks.”
