Hawkinsville Family Mourns the Loss of Murdered Teen

Investigators are still asking questions about the death of 18 year old Ashton Bartlet. The teen from Hawkinsville was shot and killed early Saturday morning around 3:30 am.

Investigators say 32 year old Birago Blackshear was Bartlet’s boyfriend, but her family refer to him as her ex. According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, he is responsible for killing Bartlet. Her brother says the death of his sister is unbelievable.

“I think I’m still in shock. It still feels like she will come driving up like it’s a normal day, but it’s not,” says Zakery Bartlet

Robert McGriff of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office says Bartlet was on her way to meet Blackshear at 31 McDuffie St. when the incident happened. Investigators say when she arrived, Blackshear grabbed her from the car and dragged her across the street. That’s when, he claims, the gun went off accidentally.
