Families Lose Homes From Fire After Storms Roll Through Middle Georgia
Bibb county residents are piecing their lives back together, after damaging lightning struck Middle Georgia.
A West Bibb county apartment building and a home on the north side of town, both caught fire during Sunday night’s storms.
“Scary” was the only way Kathy Jones could describe what she saw when her neighbor’s house was fire.
Jones said she knew something was wrong, because her cats were acting strange in her house. When she went outside to investigate, she couldn’t see any of her neighbor’s houses through the smoke.
“So I ran back in, told my husband something was going on,” Jones said.
The fire caused the roof of the house to collapse, as well as the ceilings. Fortunately no one was hurt in the blaze.
The Northwoods Apartment Complex also fell victim to the wrath of mother nature. The 1500 building went up in flames during the storms.
Dianne Butler was enjoying watching T.V. and eating dinner with her family, when she said she felt the lightning strike the building.
“It was something to see, it was like an inferno. To stand there and watch my life just go. After about five minutes, it was burning from the inside out,” Butler explains.
There were no serious injuries in the apartment complex fire either.
