Train Derails in Monroe County
Clean-up crews are working to put a derailed train back on the tracks near Juliette. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the train derailed around 10am near the intersection of Highway 83 and Highway 87.
The train is carrying a hazardous chemical called Chlorobutane in one of the cars. It is not leaking and there is no threat to the public at this time.
Staff from Norfolk-Southern have responded to also determine why the train derailed.
First responders were able to make contact with the train’s conductor/operator. No one was injured.
