Kids Learn Golf, Life Lessons in Warner Robins

Out on the links, early in the morning, eight kids step into their respected tee boxes on the driving range at International City Golf Course in Warner Robins.

“Well, when you look at it, it looks easy, but when you do it, it’s hard,” second time golfer Shorna Love explains.

As part of an eight week program to get kids from the Warner Robins Housing Authority outside and active, grip, stance, and swing are only the beginning of what’s being taught.

“We’re just coming out to empower the kids, teach them about life,” Warner Robins city councilman Daron Lee says.

The Warner Robins Building Authority, International City Golf Course, and councilman Lee, all came together to provide a way for kids to get on the greens, and stay out of trouble.

Golf Pro. Jarred Reneau says, these kids love learning the game, and he loves teaching them life skills.

“We’re teaching them life skills, etiquette, and manners and how to treat each other. That’s the beauty of golf. It teaches you how to do all those things,” Reneau said.

The kids (most with a baseball stance and swing) are happy enough just to hit some balls.

The group meets every Thursday morning, but is not exclusive to children from the Housing Authority. Councilman Lee says any kid can come out to learn the game.
