R.V.s and Campers Offer ‘Stay-cation’ Option for Holiday Weekend

Campgrounds across Middle Georgia are filling up just in time for the holiday weekend.

The Twin Oaks Campground just outside of Perry, is getting ready for its visitors for the 4th, with the pool open and the flag flying.

Cindy and Bill Maitlind drove down the road from Warner Robins for the weekend, just to get away from normal life.

“We like getting away from the T.V., and the hustle and bustle of life. Just sitting back and enjoying and relaxing,” Cindy said.

But campground Resident Manager Lisa Gannaway says, she’s noticed fewer and fewer campers this year, likely due to higher gas prices.

“People just aren’t going to go very far this summer. Gas is high, they just don’t have the cash to do it,” Gannaway says.

But even if times are tough, Gannaway says they are expecting to nearly fill up as the weekend progresses, mostly with in state ‘stay-cationers’.

The Maitlinds say, they just like to relax and be outside.

“You kick back, you do meet other people, and they can be from all over.”
