City Council Candidate Chris Horne Calls For Elaine Lucas To Resign
In a statement to local Democrats, City Council candidate Chris Horne called for an investigation on allegations made by City Council member Elaine Lucas that Horne is part of a “Republican conspiracy.”
“She hasn’t offered a shred of evidence that I’m backed by Republicans and t hat I’m a part of a conspiracy, and I want her to stop. I’m a Democrat,” Horne said. In the statement, Horne also called for her removal from office or resignation, citing what he says are violations to state by-laws for “conduct or circumstances which reflect discredit or disrepute upon the party.”
Horne referred to Facebook posts in which Lucas allegedly personally attacked his campaign manager Yolanda Latimore and his supporter Reverend Victor Hunt.
In a city council meeting on Tuesday, Horne publicly accused Lucas for the personal attacks. Lucas says his actions at the City Council meeting were an example of “desperation politics.”
“Republicans and Republican sympathizers always stoop to dirty tricks during campaigns and when they fall behind they pull some kind of political stunt–and that is all that this is–a political stunt,” she told reporters. “It’s not a political stunt to call out the truth,” Horne said in response.
“The people I’m talking to in East Macon think that this is embarrassing to have representation who behaves this way. It’s not appropriate and I’m pretty sure that they’re ready for this to end.” Lucas refused to comment on Horne’s call for an investigation or her resignation.
