Paralyzed Georgia Baseball Player Drafted By Texas Rangers

NEW YORK – Johnathan Taylor may never play baseball again because of injuries that left him paralyzed. That didn’t matter to the team that picked him Wednesday during final day of the Major League Baseball draft.

The Georgia outfielder was a 33rd-round pick of the Texas Rangers even though he was seriously injured recently.

Taylor broke his neck in March during a game when he collided with UGA teammate Zach Cone, who was also drafted by the Rangers Monday as a supplemental-round pick.

Texas director of amateur scouting Kip Fagg said the team’s selection of Taylor was “something we felt was right.”
