Baldwin Girls Heading To State Title Game

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Baldwin Bravettes have been incredible the last few seasons, getting closer and closer to the title each year.  This year, they seem to be better than ever, with the entire Baldwin team from last season making it back to the GHSA Class 4A title game after losing to Griffin in the championship.

At the beginning of the season, Baldwin legend and all-time leading scorer Tasha Butts died at 41 from breast cancer. That’s when the team rallied together off the court and started dominating their opponents on the court.

The Baldwin ladies scored more than 2,000 points this season, while only allowing 1,000, with three scorers reaching more than 1,000 career points.

The Bravettes are 28-2 with a perfect 13-0 record in GHSA Class 4A, Region 4.

Coach Kizzi Walker spoke about how, after 36 years, this team plans to finally get over the hump to win it all, as well as what changed within the team after Butts’ funeral.

“After that we just turned a corner and began to have teamwork,” Walker said.  “Our season just turned around, and we became more jelled and had more chemistry. And don’t forget the let down from last year. They are rolling on a vengeance because we lost the state championship last year and we’re the state runner-ups. The entire team came back because they were juniors and sophomores, so now we still have the same team, and now we made it back to the championship, so hopefully we’ll get it done.”

Baldwin meets Hardaway at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Macon Coliseum.
