Macon City Council Tour Struggling Parks and Rec. Centers

Macon City Council’s Community Resources and Development Committee toured the cities Rec Centers, to see for themselves what updates need to be made.

The wheels on the bus went round and round Tuesday afternoon as council members toured  FreedomPark, the FrankJohnsonRec.Center, Memorial Park, and BloomfieldPark.

Councilman Larry Schlesinger says the tour will help establish what problems need to be moved up in priority.

“We wanted to take a look at the rec.centers themselves and the amount of work, which is great, that needs to be done in all of our centers,” said Schlesinger.

At FreedomPark, the lake is going dry and a support wall needs to be built around it. The gym has no air conditioning and also needs a new floor plus there is a flooding problem near the gym.

The average age of rec. centers in BibbCounty is 38-years-old, with many of them not being properly updated since construction.
