New Grocery Store Offers Discount Prices

A new grocery chain in Middle Georgia cuts corners in a good way. It doesn’t have grocery bags and the store makes you pay to use a shopping cart, but customers say it’s all worth it by the time you reach the register.

Salenda Millines says she spent a total of $13.77 at Aldi Food Market. She says she·even bought a loaf of bread for .79 cents.

“You can’t beat that deal,” says Millines.

According to district manager, Darrell Mitchell, customers save close to 50% on groceries when they shop at Aldi.

“Not only are our prices really reasonable, but at the same time the quality is top grade,” says Mitchell.·

The store even sells locally grown produce.

The store opened two locations in Middle Georgia a few weeks ago, and brought with it innovative techniques to save money.

Mitchell says one way the store keeps its prices down is by requiring customers to bring their own bags.

“We do urge our customers to bring their own bags or they can purchase bags,” says Mitchell. He says that also helps reduce their carbon footprint

Plus, the store also requires customers to pay a quarter to use a shopping cart.

“When you use our cart system you’re going to see it’s a little weird, but with that everything is a cost saving measure,” says Mitchell.

Of course once you are done shopping you get the quarter back. Mitchell says its to keep the number of employees down and in turn pass the saving on to consumers.

Aldi is open Monday through Friday 9am-8pm, Saturdays 9am-7pm, and Sundays from 9am-6pm.
