CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker is reacting to support received from Middle Georgia and the rest of the state following the death Tuesday of 40-year-old Timothy Rivers.

The 40-year-old deputy died after a crash on Marshall Mill Road in Crawford County.

“When you lose someone in a tragic accident, it’s tough, but the support that we have received has really strengthened me and strengthened my officers to continue to go on, and we know that Deputy Rivers would want us to go on.”

According to Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened while Rivers was responding to a call to assist another officer.

The preliminary investigation revealed Rivers was driving south when he crossed the center line into the northbound lane and struck another vehicle.

Walker said the curve where the crash happened is dangerous. Two people were in the other vehicle. One of them is in stable condition at the hospital.

Georgia State Patrol is still investigating.

There will be a public viewing for Rivers on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Bentley and Sons Funeral Home in Macon.

The funeral is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. Burial will happen at Cherry Blossom Gardens in Lizella.
