MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Mentors Project of Bibb County delivered 40,000 pounds of cabbage to the community outside Luther Williams Field on Friday.

People gathered with bags and boxes ready to pack up cabbages to store for food at home. June O’ Neal, the executive director of the Bibb County Mentors Project, says these food donations help reduce food insecurity in the community.

“We’re all about sharing these cabbages and we know we have food insecurity in our community, and we hope this will help,” O’Neal said. “You can have steamed cabbage, you can have coleslaw, my friend Travis Harts taught me to put red pepper jelly on the cabbages, so there’s lots of things to do with this cabbage.”

O’ Neal says the Mentors Project is always looking for new people to join and help. Call (478) 765-8623 to get involved.
