Crawford County deputy killed in crash identified
The fatal crash happened on Tuesday night on Marshall Mill Road.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Crawford County Sheriff’s Office deputy is dead after a crash Tuesday night, according to a news release from Sheriff Lewis Walker.
Walker says the two-vehicle crash happened on Marshall Mill Road, south of Chapman Road around 10 p.m.
According to Georgia State Patrol, the preliminary investigation revealed the marked unit was traveling south on Marshall Mill Road, responding to a call to assist another officer. The driver of the marked unit traveled across the centerline into the northbound travel lane and onto the east shoulder. The driver then made a steering maneuver to the right, into the path of an oncoming vehicle that was traveling north.
The deputy and a passenger from the other vehicle were transported to Atrium Health Navicent by Community Ambulance Service.
40-year-old Deputy Timothy Tavarus Rivers of Bibb County was later pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent. The other person’s name is currently being withheld.
“Prayers for his family and everyone here at the sheriff’s office as they go through this difficult time,” Walker wrote.
