Keeping ‘E-Waste’ out of Landfills

New and improved tech gadgets are constantly debuting, but throwing the old ones away for a better model can be costly to the environment.
To help recycle those old electronics Best Buy is offering free in store recycling.

Best Buy customer John Hardman says, “It’s important to recycle your electronics for one to get them out of the way so you can get something new and to make space for something new.

Certain metals in computer hard drives and other gadgets can be hazardous to people’s health when they sit in landfills.

In order to help this problem Best Buy is offering electronic recycling.  Eddie Keeling, Home Life Specialist, says ” When people come in they don’t know about it. We offer them to recycle their old computers that way so they don’t throw them away in the garbage.

They’ll take just about anything. “Refrigerators, televisions, camcorders, phones, all those electronics,” says Keeling.

In 2010 Best Buy stores nationwide kept more than 75 million pounds of electronic waste out landfills

According to Keeling, if Best Buy is unable to take a product the company will still help. “If you can’t trade it in here we’ll find somewhere that you can trade it,” says Keeling.

Besy Buy also offers a buy back program. The store will buy your older model electronics for trade in value.

If you have big items to recycle like televisions or washing machines,
Best Buy will pick them up for you just call your local store.
