Dozens March for ‘Take Back the Night’

Dozens of men and women shouted, “Shatter the Silence,” as they took to the streets of downtown Macon for the 4th annual Take Back the Night March.

Community members marched from 3rd Street Park to Washington Park to raise awareness about sexual violence.

Representative from the Crisis Line and Safe House, Bibb County Juvenile Court, and St. Vincent de Paul were on hand to offer support as marchers took to the streets.

Event organizer, Dottie Stafford, says,”We can all be apart of the solution. It’s time to get involved. It’s time to help the problem in our area, and we need all of us together to be able to be apart of the solution.”

Survivors of sexual violence also spoke at the event during a candle light vigil. According to the Crisis Line and Safe House, every two minutes someone becomes a victim of sexual violence.

Event organizers say they are already planning next year’s march.
