Community leaders hear from Bibb County residents about effects of redistricting at town hall
The event was held in the wake of a lawsuit which argues voters of color were denied equal representation by the redistricting of Georgia’s 2021 congressional map.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County residents brought their concerns about redistricting before community leaders at the “State of the Black Voice Town Hall on the Effects of Redistricting in Macon-Bibb” community event.
It was held Tuesday night at the Elaine Lucas Senior Center on Willie Smokie Glover Drive.
The event was held in the wake of a lawsuit, which argues voters of color were denied equal representation by the redistricting of Georgia’s 2021 congressional map.
State Representative and Minority Leader James Beverly hosted the event, along with guest speakers Bibb County Commissioner Elaine Lucas, Bibb County School Board member Myrtice Johnson and Macon Water Authority Board Member Anissa Jones.
Representative Beverly says the event was a chance for Black voters to learn about local elections and discuss representation, but everyone was invited to attend.
“We want to hear from them, right. We get a chance to reset,” Beverly said. “If we get a chance to reset Bibb County, what are people saying they want? What kind of representation do they want? Where should it be? What are the ideas that folks have that show that this is a community of interest?”
