Strong storms and heavy rain likely for Friday

Good evening,
Rain started for some of the counties in Middle Georgia, but many of us are getting a little break through the evening.

By tomorrow a line of strong storms will move through Middle Georgia during the afternoon. This will bring the threat for heavy rain and gusty winds as well as some lightning. Timing will likely be during the early afternoon hours.

A level 1 (marginal) threat has been issued for all of Middle Georgia as the front moves through. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out with this line, but the main threats are 60 mph winds and very heavy rains.
We will get a small break from heavy rain overnight on Friday, but more showers and potentially heavy rain will be on the way for much of the rest of the weekend. Severe storms are not expected through the weekend so the main threat will once again be pockets of heavy rain.
The heaviest rain over the next 7 days will be mainly to our north, but we are still anticipating 2-3″ of rainfall on already saturated soils. We will need to monitor river and localized flash flooding through the weekend and into next week.

Right now we have a pretty soggy forecast for the weekend and into the new year, but we will finally start to dry out by next week, but expect a big cool down to cooler than normal temperatures.
