Family welcomes baby girl during Hurricane Michael, naming her Storm

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Many looked for shelter as Hurricane Michael hit Middle Georgia Wednesday night, but one family weathered out the storm by welcoming a new addition to their family.

“She came out, she was a girl. He was excited. I cried lots of tears. Thanked god for this blessing,” mother LaTasha Gerard said.

It’s the calm, after the storm for the Gerard family at Coliseum Medical Centers in Macon.

“The doctor came in, obviously she was born during the storm. With it being a scheduled c-section, when the doctor came in she told me that all the other scheduled surgeries for that day had to be canceled. Except for ours,” father Renaldo Gerard said.

“And here she is,” LaTasha said.

After her c-section, the family welcomed their six pounds and three ounce bundle of joy, Storm.

“My husband and my daughters were talking about it and I was just like, ‘Storm? Why not Stormi? That’s cuter.’ Eventually, I was like OK. Well we can go with Storm,” she said.

LaTasha had other names in mind, but Storm couldn’t be any more fitting.

“Since she was pretty much going to be the only one being born during the storm with a scheduled c-section and all it would be really nice to name her Storm,” Renaldo said.

Hurricane Michael May have come in like a lion, but the Gerard’s are leaving with a lame.

This isn’t the first time the Gerard’s weathered out a storm with a newborn. While living in Louisiana, two days before Hurricane Katrina they had to evacuate with their twin newborn girls.
