10-year-old making a full recovery after being shot
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 10-year-old boy is recovering after being shot early this morning. The Warner Robins Police Department is investigating to find out who shot into the home and why.
10-year-old Jaylen Meloson was planning to stay at his grandmother’s house for the week.
What planned to be a fun week ahead, turned into heartache.
“He’s very sweet. He likes playing. He likes to have fun. He’s good in school work. He loves running and playing with his sisters, he was just a playful child,” Lakathia Wilson, his grandmother said.
Wilson says her grandson was sleeping in the front room. The incident took place in Wilson’s Warner Robins home in the 100 block of Parkway Drive. Then at midnight, multiple gunshots was an unexpected alarm clock for the family. Waking everyone up.
“We heard the gunshots, we jumped up and we came in and my grandson said ‘grandma my leg hurts’ and he couldn’t get up. Then I looked, his leg was bleeding and so I called 911,” Wilson said.
Bullets went through the home’s siding, one of those bullets hitting Meloson in his right leg, just below his kneecap. He was taken to The Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon.
Wilson and the rest the family say they have no idea who did this.
“Whoever did this, I want them caught. He did not deserve this. Nobody in this house deserved what happened,” she said.
No one other injuries were reported. Meloson has since been transferred to a hospital in Atlanta. Wilson says he’s expected to make a full recovery.
So far, Warner Robins Police say they do not have anyone in custody.
