9/11 Memorial service held by Macon-Bibb County leaders

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 16 years ago the 9/11 attacks happened in New York City where many men and women were killed in the line of duty.

Leaders in Macon-Bibb held a ceremony on Friday morning in their memory. Local fallen public safety officers from The Macon Police Department, The Macon-Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, and The Macon-Bibb Fire Department were also remembered.

A rose was placed on monuments to let the families of the lost firefighters, sheriff deputies and police officers know they are not forgotten.

Chief Marvin Riggins with The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department says, “Along with today as we commemorate the lives of those public safety officers who lost their lives on 9/11, we want to make sure that we don’t forgot also that they too lost their lives in the line of duty protecting the citizens of Macon-Bibb County.”

2,996 people died on 9/11 in the terrorist attacks.
