9 students awarded scholarship money during Fire Prevention Week Ceremony

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – So far this year, there have been zero fire-related deaths in Bibb County, according to Fire Chief Marvin Riggins.  He says he wants to keep that number at zero.

Tuesday morning, the Macon-Bibb Fire Department kick-off “Fire Prevention Week” a little early. The fire department hosted it’s “Fire Prevention Week Ceremony.”  This year’s theme and motto is: “look, listen, and learn.”

“We want you to look around your homes, listen – make sure you are keenly aware of the sounds of smoke detectors, and learn what you can about being fire safe and conscious inside your homes and inside your businesses,” Chief Riggins said.

During the ceremony, nine students received scholarship money for their fire prevention essays.

Fire Prevention Week is October 7th thru the 13th.
