Unusual warmth continues, strong ridge keeps temperatures over 10 degrees above average

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Winter is still here until March 20th, but there are no winter temperatures in sight this week. It’s gone from warm to warmer, and today will be the warmest so far with 79 for our high (average high is 68).

And there’s no end this week. I’ve actually put 80s(!) for our highs Thursday through Saturday, and don’t be surprised if some 80s pop up around the area today. Strong ridging is preventing cool air from the west from getting into our area. Add the southern winds to the mix, and you have unusually warm temperatures.

Those southern winds will also increase cloud cover for the rest of the week as they bring more moisture into the southeast. Mostly cloudy skies close out the work week.

This weekend, a low pressure system moves into the area and brings temperatures back to the 70s. There’s a slight chance for rain and storms Saturday and a higher chance on Sunday. By early next week, we’re forecasting the weather to dry.
