MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The 50th anniversary of Hank Aaron’s record-breaking 715th home run will be celebrated Saturday at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame (GSHF). The previous record holder was Babe Ruth before Hank Aaron broke it. The current record holder is Barry Bonds, who broke Aaron’s record in 2007.

The GSHF will unveil a new exhibit dedicated to Aaron’s accomplishment and career.

“We decided like this would be something important, that you know, the Hall of Fame should do for Hank Aaron,” Georgia Sports Hall of Fame curator Nathan Jones said. “And we got another Hall of Famer, Phil Schaefer, helped with a lot of the items that are in this exhibit for us. So we’re very, very, thankful, for all the neat items that showcase Hank Aaron, who he was and who he is as a legend.

Saturday’s event will feature stories of the record-breaking night from Hall of Fame Inductees Ron Reed, Vic Correll and Phil Schaefer. Representatives from the Atlanta Braves and Macon Bacon will be there as well.

The free event, happening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is sponsored by Macon Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Georgia Power Company.
