41Today: Macon the Stage set for June 7-8

MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – Macon the Stage is coming to the historic Douglass Theatre on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8, 2019. Macon the Stage is an annual two-day cultural arts initiative that offers performing opportunities and a chance for artists to share their talents.

The event will also center around a tribute for legendary trumpeter Newton Collier. The Macon-based musician is most known for his brass work as a member of the horn section for the iconic 1960’s soul music duo Sam and Dave.

On June 8, at 7:00p.m., organizers will unveil a star for Collier on the Douglass Walk of Fame in front of the theatre. The unveiling will also include a VIP Gala produced by Macon the Stage at 6:00pm.

Macon the Stage was started six years ago by Dr. Shelton Land.
