Macon man tries to rob Chinese restaurant, shot in leg by employee

MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – A Macon man is behind bars after trying to rob a Chinese restaurant at gunpoint, wherein he shot himself in the leg.

Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies identified the man as 27-year-old David Vazquez. 

Authorities say Vazquez went to the China Inn at 3268 Vineville Avenue in Macon around 9:40 Saturday night. Investigators say he demanded money from the clerks at gunpoint. 

One of the clerks pulled out a pistol and shot at Vazquez. While leaving, Vazquez fired at the clerks — but the clerk shot back, hitting Vazquez in the right leg.

Investigators says Vazquez went to Medical Center Navicent Health about 20 minutes later for his injury. 

The charges

Authorities later took Vazquez to the Bibb County Jail and charged him with Armed Robbery. 

Authorities have set no bond for Vazquez.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, no charges are being filed against the clerk.
