UPDATE: Man wanted in connection with hit-and-run death of 3-year-old now in custody

UPDATE (10/15): Deputies say John Paul Battle Jr. turned himself in around 7:20 Tuesday night.

He was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and is charged with homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene of a crime.


UPDATE (10/15): The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in helping to locate 40-year-old John Paul Battle Jr., in connection with a fatal hit-and-run.

Battle is wanted in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 3-year-old boy, Royal Rhodes.

Battle Jr. has a medium build, five-foot ten inches tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds.

ORIGINAL STORY (10/14):

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 3-year-old boy is dead after being hit by a car on Riverside Drive on Monday morning, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a hotel in the 3900 block of Riverside Drive in reference to a report of a missing person at 3:58 a.m.

Deputies discovered the missing person nearby unresponsive. The missing person was identified as a 3-year-old boy.

The victim, identified by deputies as Royal Rhodes, was pronounced dead on scene by Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the 3-year-old boy had been struck by an unknown vehicle.

The next of kin has been notified. The body will be sent off for an autopsy to GBI.
