You will need to set your clocks back an hour on November 5th

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Time will move back an hour on November 5th, so make sure you make plans to set your clocks back.

The Deputy Insurance Fire Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Insurance said you should also change the batteries in your smoke detector the same day.

The commissioners said there have been 69 residential fires so far in Georgia this year and only three had working smoke detectors.

“Having a working smoke alarm can literally save your life. So while you change your clock, it makes sense to to take your smoke alarm down tested, make sure it works , change the battery,” Florence said. “You know if there’s any dust in there go ahead and clean that off because you really do want to have a working smoke alarm

The U.S. Fire Administration said you should check your smoke detector at least once a month. Batteries should be replaced at least twice a year. You can buy batteries at Walmart, Home Depot, or Amazon.
