MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, better known as FAFSA, is now open for 2027, bringing changes that families need to know about.  Jennifer Finetti, director of student advocacy at ScholarshipOwl says understanding the updated FAFSA requirements is crucial. She advises families to review the new rules early, gather all required documents and keep an eye on deadlines to avoid delays in financial aid eligibility.

Finetti says students should start applying to scholarships beginning at age 16, she also recommends that parents encourage their teens to start working as soon as they turn 16. Having a job, she said, can help students build financial responsibility and prepare them for the college application process.
