20/20 Vision Board Meets to Discuss Future Plans for Houston County

The first order of business, was to update the board on the status of renewing a business license without paying personal property taxes.

According to Houston County Tax Commissioner, Mark Kushinka, if a person doesn’t pay their personal property tax, they are not eligible to renew, or aquire a new business license without first paying their owed tax.

Since the ordinance was announced, Kushinka says the county has received a large portion of the money owed them.

“We collected $2.4 million more in delinquent taxes this March, compared to last March. And of that $2.4 million, about half a million was in personal property. That’s a large collection, compared to last year. So it’s working,” Kushinka says.

Kushinka also says, people who don’t pay their property tax, end up paying an increased interest rate, as well as possibly having an unfavorable credit score.
