200 Students Protest Dallemand’s Macon Miracle Plan

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – More than 200 students from schools across Bibb County showed up to protest Superintendent Romain Dallemand’s Macon Miracle plan.

Organizers of the protest were hoping to speak with Dallemand, however he nor any of his deputy superintendents were present at the Board of Education.

According to Director of Risk Management, David Gowan, the school officials were at a training session that was not held at the Board of Education.

Protest organizer, Tanner Pruitt, told 41 NBC,” They’re still putting filters on our open communication.”

Brett Felty, who also helped plan the event, said ” They knew this was occurring. We understand they have a lot of stuff going on, but what’s more important than listening to students?”

Pruitt and Felty, both seniors at Central High School, planned to present Superintendent Dr. Romain Dallemand 2 petitions, letters from students, and a 12 page packet of their suggestions for the Macon Miracle, but they were not allowed inside of the building.

Gowan told the pair he was acting as a liaison for the students and Dallemand.  He took the documents from the students and promised to hand deliver them to the superintendent.

“I will do my best to meet him [Dallemand] later today if I can. Obviously, these kids are passionate about this,” says Gowan.

Tanner Pruitt and Brett Felty plan to keep asking to meet face to face with Superintendent Dallemand.
