2 teens face murder charges in Macon apartment complex shooting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — On Tuesday, Bibb County Sheriff’s investigators arrested two teens in connection to the fatal shooting of Elijah Jones.

Authorities identified suspects as:

  • Micah Franklin, 15
  • Jaquandre Burden, 17

Investigators say that Jones reportedly wanted to sell a gun to people on Scotland Avenue Monday. Jones drove a Kia Sorento and Tyrin Riggins rode as the passenger.

Authorities say while Jones and Riggins sat inside the vehicle, several people approached them. One of the people reached inside the vehicle and tried to take the gun from Jones. 

As Jones tried to drive off, someone fired shots into the vehicle striking Jones in the upper torso and Riggins in the leg. Riggins pulled Jones into the passenger seat and he moved into the driver’s seat. He then drove to a friend’s home at the Sandy Springs Apartment complex on Bloomfield Road, according to investigators. 

Authorities say that the Macon-Bibb 911 Center received a call of a person shot. Deputies and EMS then went to the apartment complex.

Authorities say the  EMS took Riggins to the Medical Center Navicent Health by ambulance, and he has been released. Macon-Bibb coroner Leon Jones pronounced Elijah Jones’s death at the apartment complex.

Micah Franklin charges

Investigators say Franklin’s aunt took him to meet with investigators about the incident. Authorities charged Franklin with murder and aggravated assault. 

Deputies took Franklin to the Macon RYDC. They have set no bond for him at this time. 

Jaquandre Burden charges

Deputies took Burden to Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Authorities charged him with murder and aggravated assault. They have said no bond for him this time.

Wanted

Investigators say they also need your help locating the following three suspects connected with the murder of Elijah Jones.

  • Christopher Bonner, 19
  • Keymarion Manor, 17
  • Naylan Jon’Tez Woodford, 16

Authorities say they plan to charge the juveniles as adults.
