MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 17-year-old was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats against Westside High School, according to the Bibb County School District.
In a news release, the district said Westside High School administrators and campus police were made aware of a social media post over the weekend.
School officials investigated the post, and the teen was arrested Sunday on a charge of making terroristic threats.
Parents were notified through ParentSquare in a message from Westside High Principal Crystal Childers on Sunday evening.
Principal Childers released the following statement:
“Good afternoon, Westside families. Thank you for bringing to our attention a social media threat posted this weekend regarding Westside High School. Our District’s Campus Police Team and Safety and Security Teams worked throughout the weekend to identify the threat and to arrest the individual responsible for the post. We do not take threats lightly, and I want to thank each of you who alerted school staff to the post. Your diligence helped guide law enforcement to making the arrest. This incident, along with the heightened stress in our community this weekend, will not keep us from having a productive and successful day at school on Monday. We plan to have additional security measures in place on Monday as a precaution, and all classes and activities will proceed as planned. We look forward to seeing everyone at school and having a great week as we close out February and continue our Black History Month celebrations.”
The Bibb County School District released the following statement:
“The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for Bibb County School District. We appreciate the diligence of our students and families in alerting administrators to the threat circulating social media this weekend, and we are thankful to our Campus Police and Safety and Security teams for working throughout the weekend to investigate.”
